The Paul McKenna Band

The Paul McKenna Band
with support from John Carnie

The Paul McKenna Band have just been awarded the "UP AND COMING ARTIST OF THE YEAR 2009" sponsored by The Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama.

Combining their love for traditional and folk music, as well as original songs and tunes, the Paul McKenna Band have been playing to audiences throughout the UK since 2006.

With a contemporary approach to songs, although not straying too far from their roots, their arrangements are both fresh and innovative.

Their exciting sound is created through outstanding Vocals, driving Guitar and Bouzouki, intense Fiddle playing, a warm pairing of Flute and Whistles ad dynamic Bodhran and Percussion.

They released their debut album "Between Two Worlds" in early 2009 to critical acclaim and are now widely acknowledged as the front runners in Scottish folk music. Fiddler Ruaridh Macmillan was recently crowned BBC Young Scottish Traditional Musician of the Year and the band have received personal commendations from the likes of Dick Gaughan and Brian McNeill.

John Carnie :

John Carnie is a guitarist and singer whose recent debut CD release has received impressive reviews. On the all instrumental “Far from Home” he eschewed vocals to produce the first ever album of all Scottish traditional tunes played on the guitar and came up with a treasure trove of reels, jigs and harp tunes that form the backbone of the Scottish musical heritage.

He is a guitarist who can appeal to all lovers of traditional music in general and fans of the acoustic guitar in particular. With a deep knowledge of blues and a box of Irish slip jigs at hand he is also as likely to launch into a song by the likes of Richard Thompson, a traditional Scottish ballad or bring out his slide guitar and sing a long lost country blues tune.

Unfortunately due to the high cost of production, and the limited seating capacity of this venue we are not able to offer any concession tickets.
