The Saggy Bottom Boys,

The Saggy Bottom Boys,
with Ruth Notman, and Martin Stephenson

The Saggy Bottom Boys :

Formed initially to fill an empty slot at the 2009 Arran Folk Festival, it soon became apparent that the old adage of "the whole being greater than the sum of its parts" applied to this group in abundance - and that is saying something when you look at each individual. They each have decades of experience across several musical genres playing some of the great venues throughout the country and they manage to combine this into truly impressive performances as The Saggy Bottom Boys. A great variety of songs given the Saggy Bottom Boys unique Bluegrass treatment is sure to delight this evening's audience.

Ruth Notman  :

Folk music is seeing one of its biggest ever booms and the boundaries between acoustic mainstream (KT Tunstall, Amy MacDonald) and the leading folk artists are becoming blurred. Ruth's debut album (Threads) has tracks that sit comfortably in that boundary but also captures all that is good about the current folk scene. Having played the Nottinghamshire folk scene since she was 13, Ruth got a break when a local record label took a chance on the then 18 year old singer.
Skilfully blending traditional material and unique covers with her own beautifully crafted songs, Ruth has set the folk world and beyond ablaze with her debut album Threads. Stunning production of a hugely varied repertoire makes this album something quite different from the norm. Simple stripped down ballads and epic sweeping arrangements are all tied together by the power and passion of Ruth’s vocals.

Martin Stephenson:

As leader/songwriter with the Daintees, Martin evolved into an unusual songwriter in the early 80's, writing idiosyncratic flavours way beyond his years. Making his name more as a strong performer and anti industry bard, relating more to outsiders and hobbyists than fame hungry networking lemmings.

Releasing 4 critically acclaimed albums between the years 85/92. He continues to plough his own furrow living in the Highlands of Scotland releasing over 20 albums and performing concerts throughout the UK.
